Air conditioners are typically one of those things we now take for granted. Once considered a luxury, air conditioning has now become a necessity for most people. Air conditioners like most things have made major changes in the last few years. Among them being newer, more environmentally friendly refrigerant units (R410a) with much higher efficiencies from 13-SEER to 25-SEER. (SEER = Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. The higher the SEER, the less energy it consumes and the less it costs to operate.) There are single, two stage and variable speed outdoor units. Two stage units can operate at two different capacities to handle the different changes from warm days to those hot dog days in summer or the changes from a warm morning or evening to a hot mid-day. Two stage units are also better at humidity removal which is a big part of air conditioning.
Varaiable speed units can run at any level needed to properly cool your home whatever the outdoor conditions. If you can lower the humidity to more acceptable levels, you will be much more comfortable. At Midwest Heating Cooling and Plumbing, we are experts at providing our customers with the best system to fit your individual needs. Midwest Heating Cooling and Plumbing offers a complete line of air conditioners to fit most every need and every budget. Advances in furnaces have taken place over the past few years in reaction to the need to conserve energy. Energy efficiencies now reach as high as 98%, meaning that only 2% of the energy consumed by the appliance is being wasted or exhausted out the flue. Blower motors on furnaces have also seen drastic upgrades with the “variable speed” and “ECM” motors being used in many of the new units now available. These motors consume far less energy than their predecessors. Some of these new motors use the energy equivalent of a 65 watt light bulb. These motors are especially efficient when used in conjunction with indoor air quality items such as whole home humidifiers, UV-Lights and air cleaners that utilize continuous blower operation.
The motors also can contribute to higher efficiency rating for the air conditioners or heat pumps they are coupled with to further enhance their value. For customers of MGE, the utility offers rebates for furnaces 90% efficient and higher. For more information on how these new furnaces can improve the home comfort for you and your family, please contact Midwest Heating Cooling and Plumbing at 816-943-8400 and set up a free, no obligation assessment from a comfort advisor.
