Product and Services
Air Handlers: Air Handlers are also referred to as electric furnaces or fan/coil units. The major difference between a furnace and an air handler is that the furnace uses gas and the air handler is totally electric. Your air handler unit (AHU) is a major appliance of your “split” heating, ventilation and air conditioning (hvac) system. In residential applications, an air handler is used for forced air distribution of central air conditioning.
The common air handler is a cabinet with a blower, controls, and houses the air conditioning evaporator coil. AHU’s can be fitted with filter racks, air cleaners, humidifiers, ultra-violet lights, sound attenuators, zone systems, dampers, electric heat strips, breakers, heating controls and more.
Cooling Coils: Installing the correct evaporator coil is essential for getting the highest performance and comfort from your central air conditioning or heat pump system. As indoor air passes through the evaporator coil, humidity is removed, which creates ‘cooler’ indoor air.
The newer evaporator coils use the environmentally sound puron refrigerant. Puron® is designed not to harm the earth’s ozone layer. Federal law requires that all manufacturers phase out ozone depleting refrigerants in the next few years. Puron refrigerant is approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency as a replacement from Freon R22.
Duct System: It’s possible that the cause of these problems may be the ducts in your home. If your duct system is at least 10 years old, then your ducts may be loose or damaged, allowing conditioned air to be pumped into unused space, thereby reducing the amount of air flowing throughout your home.
Furnace: Most U.S. homes are heated by furnaces which affect up to two-thirds of your annual energy bill. Furnaces heat air and distribute the heated air through your home’s duct system. Great Works Heating & Air Company offers you the best selection of quality, dependable and efficient furnaces, each backed by an industry-leading warranty.
Heat Pump: A Heat Pump is exactly like an air conditioner, except for one little technology change. When a Heat Pump is cooling, it is an Air Conditioner. But, the Heat Pump can do something that an Air Conditioner cannot. When the temperatures outside start to drop, and heat is needed in your home instead of cooling, a Heat Pump will reverse the flow of refrigeration and instead of removing heat from the home, will capture the heat that exists in the cooler outdoor air and use that heat to warm your home.
Humidifiers: Dry indoor air is a major cause of respiratory infections, nose bleeds and repeated episodes of winter colds. A lack of moisture can prevent your immune system from repelling infection-causing germs and can actually promote the growth of some bacteria viruses and respiratory irritants.
Your skin needs proper moisture too. By adding a humidifier to your furnace you will add comfort throughout your entire home. Dry air also harms plants, paintings, moldings and wallpaper. It can cause warping and splitting of furniture, woodwork and hardwood floors too. Yet, all of this can be easily avoided for the smallest of investments.
A Whole-Home Humidifier installed by Great Works will deliver the perfect amount of moisture to your air making you feel more comfortable at lower thermostat settings. In fact, the EPA states that you can save up to 4% on your heating bill for every degree you lower your thermostat! Increase your family’s level of comfort and protect your valuable furnishings by adding just the right amount of moisture with a Whole-House Humidifier.
Thermostats: Programmable thermostats are one of the quickest and easiest ways to cut energy costs. You can save on your power bill every time you are not at home.
